The Birks Foundation - What's It Worth - Understanding the Process


Items will be researched....

1. To tell what time and/or period

2. Research an item to determine if a historical person or persons are connected.

3. Checking to determine if items are in original state or altered in any form or way.

4. Determining actual value with our high quality scale.

5. Recommending care & proper storage for some items.

   Note: Some items may take weeks to properly research.  Metal or cloth items may have to go through metal or cloth material analysis to determine a particular time period.

Certified Authenticators....

Every member processing items has gone through years of hands training, specializing in there own field of expertise.  Every member will be bonded and finger printed on file, to obtain the care and proper handling of valued items.

Every item will be assessed in writing before the final certificate is issued.

My signature and seal will be the final verification to authenticate each item named and described.

6 Rules to follow....

1st.  Determine the period and if military connected, which war early late. ( If, information allows, get what little there is...)

2nd Check out what materials contained in each item.

3rd  Check maker marks, hallmarks, tags, dates, colors, fabrics and I.D..

            a. Let the item explain itself what it is with your knowledge.

4th  If, item has attachable pieces check each piece, make sure that pieces it has check to be period, not just recently

       replaced, changed or modified.

            a. Check attachments, that the age of the main item matches attachments.

5th  Complete a detail research work up on each item.

6th  Estimate value and worth, compare prices if other prices exist.
